Teen eating disorders support

Eating disorders create significant challenges for teens and their families in all aspects of their lives. Sometimes these challenges require intensive treatment. Through our multidisciplinary approach, we address physical, emotional, and nutritional health, academic functioning, and family and peer relationships. Our goal is to provide holistic care that supports adolescents and their families in finding new and healthy ways of living. So often, teens with eating disorders and their families feel isolated and alone. Our program provides structure and support.

Back to Healthy weight. Getting professional help from a doctor, practice nurse, or a school or college nurse will give your friend or relative the best chance of getting better. But this can be one of the most difficult steps for someone living with an eating disorder, so try to encourage them to seek help or offer to go along with them. Treatment will be different depending on the type of eating disorder your friend or relative has. It will usually involve some kind of talking therapy because help with eating and putting on weight alone is usually not enough. Your friend or relative will talk to a therapist about the emotional difficulties that led to their eating disorder, and they will learn healthier ways to cope with these feelings.

Miranda struggled with anorexia when she was in Alexandria Middle School, starving herself to the point of heart failure, then undergoing weeks of inpatient treatment in seventh and eighth grade.

The adolescent and teenage years are a time of growth and transformation, physically, mentally and biologically. In moving towards adulthood, young people begin to discover who they are. Independent of parents, they begin to establish friendships and go through puberty. There are obvious physical changes associated with adolescence and puberty. But a large amount of internal change also occurs.
